A Cozy 1930's House with a Big Story

Close your eyes and imagine you are transported back to the 1930's. You probably weren’t around for that..but from what we know from our elders and what we've seen in the movies, it seemed to be the simplest of times.

Now, imagine a warm and cozy vintage home built in the 30's —a cute porch with a swing, kids' laughter filling the rooms, a time where social media didn't exist, and whistling tunes drifting through the halls.

Discovering the Legacy of Jerry Klug

This was once a Pittsburgh home to a family with a story many will remember — because of who once lived here. Jerry Klug. Mount Nebo’s Whistling Grandma. Beautician. Singer. Songwriter. Performer. Actress. Owner of Jerry Records. A woman of many things.

How do I know this?

It all started when I became the owner of Oh So Frilly Events. An Instagram notification popped up — a message request that said this:

“Hello! This will sound like a crazy message, but I believe that your event space used to be my grandmother’s home before she moved to Florida in the 1980s.”

It was the granddaughter of Jerry, reaching out to tell me how special it was to see the house turned into a vintage event space. I can’t even tell you how exciting that was to hear — the old soul in me was screaming.

Shortly after, Jerry’s son reached out to connect and share even more about her story. He was so proud to talk about his mom and the memories she created. He mentioned that his mom used to run a beauty shop in the basement, something I already knew since I found the old, rusty sign in our garage, which is now displayed in our western lounge so I can share the story.

He sent me newspaper clippings, magazine ads, and even letters from the White House about her performances. Headlines read:“Mount Nebo’s Whistling Grandma” “Grandmother Whistles Her Way to Fame” “Beautician Grandmother Records Her First Song” “She Sings in a Beauty Shop”

Her Music Lives On

Oh — but that’s not all.

In the summer of 2025, Jerry’s son shipped several of her original records to us to keep and play in the space. Now, I can share her story and make it even more meaningful. Music has a way of bringing out emotion — and her music? Pure. Wholesome. Meaningful.

After learning about Jerry, I knew I had to make her legacy part of this space — part of the brand, part of the conversation. I placed her articles all throughout the venue. Guests notice them. They feel the story. They appreciate the memory and the history.

Jerry was featured in over 200 commericals and ads.

From Family Home to Vintage Event Space

So after many years as a family home, it’s now a cozy, vintage event space called Oh So Frilly Events, located in Sewickely, just outside of Pittsburgh. Filled with antiques, fine china in every corner, and the most detailed decor you’ll ever see. We have thousands of pieces of vintage china — teacups, plates, bowls, goblets, glassware, and more.
